Our Story

Founded in 1988 in the heart of Othaya Sub-County, Nyeri County, Othaya Green Santos Football Club was born from a shared love for football and a deep desire to uplift local youth through sport. What began as a small, community-driven team has steadily grown into one of the region’s most respected grassroots football institutions.

From dusty community pitches to the national football stage, the journey of Othaya Green Santos FC has been defined by resilience, unity, and belief. Competing first at the Sub-County level, the club earned its stripes through consistent performances, rising to the Regional League and eventually securing promotion to the FKF National Division 2, where it proudly competes today.

For over three decades, the club has stood as a symbol of hope and opportunity, offering young players a structured platform to develop talent, discipline, and character—both on and off the pitch. Many players have passed through our ranks not just as footballers, but as responsible community members shaped by teamwork and perseverance.

Community at the Core

Othaya Green Santos FC is community-owned and community-managed, formally registered as a Self-Help Group. This unique structure ensures that the club truly belongs to the people it represents. Decisions are guided by collective responsibility, transparency, and a shared vision of long-term growth.

Our leadership team—comprising the Director, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary General ,Secretary and Vice Secretary, Director of Discipline, Team Manager, Coaching Staff, and Publicity Secretary—works tirelessly, largely voluntarily, to keep the club competitive and stable.

The Reality We Face

Despite competing at a national level, the club operates with very limited financial resources. We do not have a main sponsor and rely heavily on fans, well-wishers, and occasional community fundraisers to meet basic operational needs.

Key challenges include:

  • Training and match equipment
  • Playing kits and boots
  • Player food, accommodation, and medical support
  • Transportation for away matches (no team bus)
  • Player welfare and motivation

Our players currently do not receive salaries, and any winning bonuses are purely donation-based. Yet, their commitment and loyalty to the badge remain unwavering—an embodiment of the true spirit of community football.
